*Currently Seeking a new Baseball Coordinator / Board Position for our DCWYSO Board*

Falcon Baseball Parents,

The 2022 baseball season is ahead of us and we are ready to lace ‘em up and get back out on the diamond. Baseball registration will open up on January 4th and run through February 13th. We will offer a fitting day for uniforms the following week as usual. Practice start dates will depend on the Manager of that age group. Games usually start towards the middle/end of April. T-Ball should expect to start in late May.

This year we will be adjusting the enrollment fees for the 2022 season. We take pride in offering some of the lowest enrollment costs and scholarships to ensure every youth in the DC West school district has the chance to participate and haven’t raised our rates in 8 years. There will no longer be a deposit, instead a one time flat fee. Although we are not giving the incentive to volunteer this year, it is still a vital part of our success. Our goal is to make youth sports costs for our community as low as possible to break even. We hold fundraisers to update and add to our facilities. For example, our new scoreboards should be up for the start of the season! The continued goal from the Youth Sports Organization is to maximize the experience for our kids.

2022 Baseball Cost:

T-ball-              $65

1st Grade-        $80

8U-                  $125

9U-                  $150

10U-                $150

12U-                $150

14U-                $175

There are a few changes as to how the season will run, so here is a snapshot per grade:

Pre-K & K- T-ball is offered for this age and is boys and girls combined. Practice and games are played on Saturdays and are in house (play against each other). The first half will be drills followed by a game. Volunteers for this group is greatly appreciated. There are usually a good number of players out. If we can break down groups into smaller numbers it is advantageous for everyone. Please let me know if you would like to help.

1st grade- This age group will offer a few different options. This group moves up from t-ball to a coach pitch game. Players do not strike out or walk. The coach will throw to the batter until the batter puts the ball in play. If the player is unable to, after a discretionary number of pitches, a tee will come out to assist the player to put the ball in play.  We learned from last year, our surrounding towns have all kept this age group in house as well. If we can talk them in to playing against us, we will, but last year no teams were interested. If you feel like your son is ready for 8U, he is illegible to play. See 2nd grade.

2nd Grade- This is 8U baseball and we play in the Elkhorn Athletic Association Leagues (EAA) moving up from here. This is a player/coach pitch league. Players pitch to batters and after four balls are thrown, then a coach will come out to pitch. Again, no walks are allowed, but strikeouts are a part of the game. Example: A player has been thrown 4 balls but also has 2 strikes on him when the coach comes out, if the next pitch results in a swing and miss the batter is out. To set expectations, usually the coach will come out unless the batter puts the ball in play. EAA will set these schedules. We play our surrounding small towns as well as Elkhorn teams. Half of the games will be played at home and half away.

3rd Grade- This is 9U Baseball. This is player pitch and walks are a part of the game. This is a big jump for the players in that regard. Pitching becomes a focal part of the game. Game scheduling will be done through EAA.

4th Grade- This is 10U Baseball. The biggest adjustment you will see in this age group is that stealing is allowed. This means the catcher position is really introduced and becomes a large part of the game.

5th and 6th Grade- This is 12U Baseball. The major difference you will see at this level, is that players are allowed to lead off and dropped ball 3rd strikes are introduced. In our upcoming season, there will be two teams again for this age group. This year, we will be offering an Evolution Plus Team.  This option will be made up of the more advanced players and will be playing up a league. There will be 12 players, coached by Mark Listenberger.

The Evolution Team will play in the league that we have been familiar with from years past.

The coaches will choose players to form rosters, based on a series of Winter workouts (dates to come). If you do not wish to have your son on the Evolution Plus Team, please let us know.

We are making this option available for a few reasons:

  1. To offer a more competitive option.
  2. To give all players a chance to play at their skill level.
  3. To help keep our athletes playing for DCW and not going to Omaha teams.
  4. Most teams in our league have been doing this for years.

7th and 8th graders- This is 14U Baseball. Depending on numbers this will be made up of two teams as well. An 8th grade team and a 7th grade team. Again, this is not in concrete and will depend on the number of players signed up. Players are allowed to wear metal spikes at this level.
